Pickled Beets Version
SFMQG is very excited to be hosting Latifah Saafir the weekend of August 4th, 5th and 6th 2017.
Saturday August 5th will be full day workshop. We will be making the new PICKLED BEETS QUILT. Make this bold modern quilt that was designed in homage to the classic pickled beets motif. In this fun class you will learn paper piecing and gain skill in curved piecing.
Pennants Version
Pickled Beets has two sizes baby and lap. You can pick either one to work on during this class.
There are two orientations for you to select from. The Pickled Beets version is with the pickle-dish points pointing upwards with two background colors (like the chartreuse and white example quilt).
If you have one instead of two background colors and rotate it you have the Pennants version! You can choose either style.
When you pull fabric for your quilt, don’t limit yourself by the layouts on the example quilts. It can be scrappy, you can use multiple backgrounds, etc. Have fun pulling fabric and make this yours. We’ll chat about fabric choices and so forth at the beginning of class so you don’t have to make all your design decisions before class.
Fabric Requirements:
Lap Quilt - Pickled Beets Version
- 3 1/2 yds background fabric for lap sized quilt (white in main example quilt)
- 2 yds secondary background (chartreuse in example quilt)
- A combination of fabric to equal about 2 yards for pickle-dish points.
Lap Quilt - Pennants Version
- 5 1/2 yds background fabric
- A combination of fabric to equal about 2 yards for pickle-dish points.
Baby Quilt - Pickled Beets Version
- 1 yd background fabric for baby sized quilt (white in main example quilt)
- 1 yd secondary background (chartreuse in example quilt)
- A combination of fabric to equal about 1 1/2 yards for pickle-dish points.
Baby Quilt - Pennants Version
- 2 yd background fabric for baby sized quilt
- A combination of fabric to equal about 1 1/2 yards for pickle-dish points.
Supplies Needed:
- Scotch tape
- Rotary cutter (or fabric scissors)
- Acrylic ruler (6” x 12” is ideal)
- Add a Quarter ruler OR small ruler (2 1/2” x 8 1/2” is ideal)
- Cutting mat
- Paper scissors (or rotary cutter dedicated to cutting paper)
- Thread for piecing
- Flat head pins
- Sheet of template plastic, index card, or sheet of card stock
- Seam roller or creaser
The pattern for this class is not available yet, but will be ready for purchase the day of the class for $10. So don't forget to bring your money!
