Cost: $55 Registration open Sat, Dec 5, 2026 9am in Store for members only at this time.
Workshop Description:
In this block-based online workshop you’ll be playing with her Barrelled quilt block. The design got its name from the slang to be barrelled, to surf inside the hollow, breaking part of a wave.
The workshop covers many skill-building techniques like no-pin curves (quarter circles, ovals and long ovals as well as half circles) precision piecing and lots of pressing and trimming techniques.
You can choose to make the 28” block or a full quilt. The blocks can be made using the Papper Sax Sten custom acrylic templates or the paper templates included with this pattern.
Itinerary:
Prep session - Saturday December 19th, 1:30 - 2:30pm ET
Workshop - Saturday January 30th, 10am-2pm ET
Included:
•One hour prep session (via zoom)
•Four hour workshop (via zoom)
•PDF paper templates for you to print
•PDF Barrelled pattern (28” block and 64” quilt)
•The recording of the prep session and workshop
Suitable for intermediate quilters but adventurous beginners should also feel encouraged to join. No previous curve experience is required but general quilting knowledge is assumed (how to use a rotary cutter, sew with an accurate seam allowance etc.) and an affection for precision will surely help.
About Jenny:
A Swedish exile having spent the previous 18 years in London and Sheffield, Jenny Haynes (née Nilsson) studied Pattern Cutting and Tailoring in her native Stockholm. Soon after, she followed her passion for fabrics and moved to London to study Fashion and Textiles at the London College of Fashion. She went on to develop her own label ‘Papper, Sax, Sten’ (that’s ‘Paper, Scissors, Stone’ in case you’re wondering!), creating award-winning designs that reflect her many different influences.
Her bespoke quilts and furnishings are recognised for their clean and simple, mid-century modern design. Jenny mixes rich colours with pastels and is not scared of a color clash, often using her trademark curves together with solid fabrics, while remaining faithful to her Scandi’ roots. This was recognised in Summer ’15 when Jenny was invited by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, along with 18 other Swedish designers, to be a part of Heal’s Swedish Summer Exhibition. Heal’s have a long history of promoting Swedish design with exhibitions in 1923, ’51 and ’71.
Jenny has had her quilts and patterns published in numerous magazines and two of her quilts won awards at QuiltCon 2019 in Nashville. When Jenny isn’t designing her curvy and quirky quilt patterns, she teaches at the Victoria & Albert Museum as well as giving talks and workshops for guilds and textile venues in the UK and abroad.
