As a guild, we knocked it out of the park.
This past Saturday, Shelly Recicar introduced the February BOM and oh how I love the wonky log cabin pattern and the pretty colors!
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the first SFMQG meeting of 2016. Here's what's on the agenda.
Our January BOM is the Fractured Background block.
The fun continues this month as we have a special format meeting on Saturday the 19th to assemble our quilt!
Fabric bundles were mailed out last week to our members who are participating in the group improv for the national MQG Quiltcon 2016 Charity Challenge, and this week everyone received a set of guidelines for creating their block.
“Improv is more than sewing together random bits of fabric. You can take an idea, an image, or an object and translate it into a block or quilt via improvisational piecing.”
Our November BOM is a block designed by Jess of Elven Garden Quilts for the Bee Hive. The Bee Hive is the brainchild of Alyce Blyth of Blossom Heart Quilts - it’s a year long series of block tutorials designed with online quilting bees in mind.
This is a paper pieced pattern and is very easy to make.

This month we are shifting our focus to a low volume block.
This month we have a fun block that starts with the idea of a log cabin and shows you how to make it in a more free form fashion. The piecing and gentle curves incorporate some of the things we've been playing with in the previous blocks. Just remember to relax and enjoy yourself!

We have been so impressed with how diligent and dedicated our QAL participants have been so far!
A dip in the pool with a tall lime drink is just what we need to beat the heat, or just make our August block for a refreshing change.
As mentioned at the June meeting, we are having a contest for a new SFMQG logo.
Our July BOM is appliqué circle blocks based on the demonstration that Shelly Recicar gave at our May meeting.

The May Block of the Month is a cute raw appliqué block called French Macarons.
