January meeting reminder

The SFMQG exhibit hanging at World Quilt Florida in Orlando this month.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the first SFMQG meeting of 2016. We have so much fun stuff planned! And we have some exciting new ideas that we will be incorporating into our meetings going forward.

Next meeting:

Saturday JANUARY 16th 10am-12pm

at Stitchcraft, 399 S. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton

Membership Renewals

Just a reminder that you need to renew your membership for 2016 before the meeting starts. We will be at Stitchcraft early and accepting renewals by card, check or cash between 9:30 and 10:00. Please don't arrive late if you want to renew.

Guests

We love guests! Guests can attend their first meeting for free. A second meeting is $5, and after that we ask that you join.

This month we are going to be introducing a couple of new concepts into our general meetings.

Icebreaker Question

To get us warmed up each month we'll have a question to ponder and respond to. This month's question is: What are your quilty resolutions for 2016? Please ponder that question and tell us your answer at the beginning of the meeting. The most ambitious resolution will win a fat quarter of fabric!

Sewtastic Basket

We are taking our raffle up a notch! Every month we will be putting together a big basket of quilting and sewing related treats. The Sewtastic Basket will be raffled off to raise funds for the guild's future activities. Tickets will be $1 each or six tickets for $5.  The winner of the basket takes it home and keeps anything they want. Hopefully the winner will want everything, but sometimes there might be something you just can't use, so let it "roll over" to the next month's raffle! The winner then adds some goodies to the basket and returns it at the next meeting. We all have fabric we have fallen out of love with, or notions we have never found a way to use) -- pay it forward and give them a new home with one of your guild sisters, and benefit the guild as well!  Before the raffle we'll show you all of the goodies in the basket so you can decide if you want to bid or not. We'll also have a stash of goodies that we'll be adding each month, in addition to our winner's donations.

Annual Meeting

Once a year, we are required to hold an Annual Meeting to fulfill our status as a non-profit organization. We will incorporate this into our general meeting. We will deliver a detailed financial report and talk about our plans for 2016.

No Intermission

We are going to try to run the meeting straight through without an intermission. We think it will run a bit more smoothly for us if we save our shopping until the meeting is over. Let's see how it goes.

Also on our agenda for January are the following:

The Block of the Month lottery

This month we are doing Fractured Background in a palette of browns, black, red and olive green. Remember, the more you make, the greater your chances are of winning the whole pot!

Topic of the Month: Modern quilt layouts

We will be talking about modern quilt design and ideas for turning BOM and QAL blocks into finished quilts.

Quiltcon Charity Quilt

It's the big reveal of our finished quilt before it gets shipped off to hang at Quiltcon 2016 in Pasadena, California!

World Quilt Florida show review

Charlotte will be making a presentation with lots of photos about our exhibit and trip to Orlando, with some help from Allison, Debby, and anyone else who was at the show. Expect lots of photos of beautiful quilts!

Show & Tell

We love the see the modern quilts our members make! Please bring in modern quilting projects for Show & Tell.  New this month: sign up for Show & Tell when you sign in  at the door.

Sewcial

From 12-3 pm we will have a sewing social. Bring your hand sewing or bring your machine, bring your knitting or your cross stitch - bring anything crafty and bring your lunch, and sit a spell and chat with your sisters in the guild. You are welcome to stay for just a few minutes or for a few hours!

And I'm sure we'll think of a few extra things to throw at you before the week is out. We really look forward to seeing you all there!  Who's coming?

Happy sewing!

Allison Schnackenberg, President
