Thank you SFMQG members for your amazing response to our call for participation in the Quiltcon 2016 Charity Challenge . I think everyone in the room was amazed and delighted by the display of beautiful improv blocks inspired by Florida sunsets at our November meeting.
The fun continues this month as we have a special format meeting on Saturday the 19th to assemble our quilt! After a short business meeting and our usual awesome members' Show & Tell, we are going to push back the chairs and get out the tables to start an extended Sewcial.
We are going to need members to step up and volunteer for the different jobs that need to be done to complete our quilt.
- Design/Layout - we need two people to take charge of assembling the blocks in a design for our top.
- Piecing - four people to piece together the blocks, and make strips of improvised sashing. (Machine required.)
- Piecing - two people to piece together the back of the quilt using available scraps and yardage. (Machine required.)
- Binding and sleeve - one or two people to cut and piece together a binding using scraps and available yardage. (Machine required.)
- Pressing - two people to press for our piecers! (Iron supplied.)
- Basting - one or two people to put together our quilt sandwich. (Spray or pins, to be decided with quilter(s).)
- Quilting - one to three people to come up with quilting ideas, and do the quilting (machine and/or hand quilting allowed!).
- Label - we need one person to make a label for our quilt.
It is likely that the basting and quilting, and binding will be done after this Saturday's meeting (though we're happy to get anything done that we have time for!) Those things can be done at home or we can arrange another Sewcial before our January meeting.
Please use the form below to sign up for the jobs you would like to do. Deadline for sign-ups is Thursday 17th midnight. Look for an email on Friday confirming what job you are doing. Note that some jobs will require you to bring your sewing machine on Saturday.
We need to complete the quilt by mid-January so that we can send it off to Quiltcon in Pasadena for display!
We look forward to assembling our blocks and seeing our finished quilt.
