Red Thread Studio Event Recap

We had a relaxing, inspiring and educational day in Fort Lauderdale Sat 1/23/16 with Jen Lee from Red Thread Studio

First Jen talked about herself and her journey to create Red Thread Studio. Then she talked about each of her Featured Designers and showed us some of their special talents.

#FeaturedDesigners @rosaliedekkerdesigns @passionatelysewn @funkyfriendsfactory @maychappell who's patterns are featured in this collage. #unitedstitches #MyElephantQuilt #MyKimonoGirlsQuilt #AllSquaredUp #OzzieTheOctopus

How cute are these dolls made to look like her children? See Sewing Smiles Doll Kit on her site. And even more special you can Sew it Forward! For each kit purchased, a handmade doll using the same Sewing Smiles pattern will be given to a child in an underdeveloped country.  Proceeds from the sale will also provide income to a local sewist.

Jen brought a truck full of beautiful items to sell and the group sure took advantage of that.  Lovely hand embroidery kits, supplies and gifts along with very special fabric and quilting fabric and patterns.

We had lunch and then the learning began. She discussed hand embroidery tools and supplies then gave us lots of detailed info and tips. Then we opened up our kits

For the rest of the afternoon we practiced hand embroidery stitches while Jen walked around the classroom helping students as needed.

At the end she left us with a challenge: the kit included a United Stitches pre-stamped embroidery design with threads to stitch.  She would love to see what everyone makes with the United Stitches stitcheries!  They can email or post on Facebook or Instagram. Of the photos submitted, she’ll randomly select a winner for a free Rosalie Dekker stitchery. SFMQG has extended the challenge to ask students to bring what they have made to March SFMQG meeting. We'll have a special Show & Tell to take pictures to do a blog post and have a random lottery prize.

Thank you to Jen of Red Thread Studio for driving from Palm City to lead us in a relaxing, inspiring and educational day.

Thank you to SFMQG board members for organizing and helping out throughout the day.

Thank you to our venue sponsor General Provision, a unique co-working space in Flagler Arts & Technology Village (aka FATVillage) in downtown Fort Lauderdale.  What a cool and interesting place to have an art workshop.

Last, but not least, thank you to the attendees (SFMQG members and a few guests) – couldn’t have done it without you!
