October Meeting Recap

Welcome

The October meeting was "Bring a Friend" month.  This idea was to introduce more people to our guild.  Each member and friend was entered into a special raffle and the winners were Pat Bidol-Padva and Toby. Thanks to all that participated.

BQE Update

Judy Kaplan, from the Broward Quilt Expo (BQE) came and gave a talk about entering quilts into the BQE quilt show.  Information about entry was sent out by email, refer to the email for more information.  Information is also available on the BQE website.  The deadline for entries is Feb 8, 2017.

Linda Gordon, Penny Stern and Annette have volunteered to organize the raffle for our BQE raffle quilt fundraiser.

Quiltcon 2017 Charity Quilt

All of the blocks were completed at the October sew day.  The next step is to put together into a quilt top, which will be done at our November sew day.

QAL

The Improv Quilt Along for 2016 has reached the end of traveling, all of the blocks are completed and returned to the participant that started the box. There will be a finishing party workshop on Nov 12.

Make Do Challenge

We have a fun project coming up based on the Sheri Lynn Wood "Make Do Challenge".  There will be more information coming. VP of Projects Patti Auten will be leading us.

BOM

The October block of the month "Barn Bat" mini blocks were won by Lori Ann Esposito and June G won the Jelly Roll.

Community Service

Our community service Activity council delivered 25 quilts to Manor Care Nursing home of Boca Raton.  Next year we will be sewing youth quilts for the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, Florida.

Presidents Talk

Allison gave her presidents talk about several important topics.  

  • Amazon Smile is a great way for the guild to receive a percentage of sales from purchases made from the Amazon website. Be sure to link up your account to SFMQG!
  • It is time for Membership Renewal.  Renewal will be $50 until November 30th, or $55 later
  • MQG Town Hall: we discussed how our members felt after listening to the national leadership's explanations for "Derivativegate" and their plans for the future.

Special Topic

VP of Programs Charlotte Noll gave a very interesting presentation on "Pieced Backs", the slide show will be available in the member resources section of the webpage.

Happy Holiday Swap

At the November meeting we will have our second Holiday handmade item swap.   Members will be swapping a small handmade quilted item. More details will be on the blog soon.

Show and Tell

There was a nice group of show and tell quilts this month. Several were Halloween themed. See the pictures in the gallery below. (Unfortunately, I didn't get pics of Penny and Leslie's quilts. Sorry!)
