February 2023 Meeting Recap

SATURDAY, February 18th, 2023

MEETING MINUTES

Cathy opened meeting at 1pm. Zoom only meeting this month

Attendance : 57 members on zoom

BQE Volunteers Needed - Robinn

  • Volunteers needed for setup/hanging quilts. Physical work.

  • Nice if you can bring a small step stool. 

  • Friday 4/14 - Awards night - needs people to handle ticket sales

  • Please order tickets online

  • Dress nicely if you attend awards ceremony - will be called up and photographed.

  • Admissions: need volunteers at admissions, handling payments, will call. Sit down jobs.

  • 5 positions open for basket walk

  • Raffle quilt - raffle funds benefit BQE toward the expense of the show. Sit down position.

  • Need white glove people - who can touch the quilts and point out areas of the quilts to visitors. Need several volunteers for this - opportunity to promote guild.

  • Need volunteers for quilt pickup. Former complaint was waiting in long line to get quilts picked up. 

  • Quilts that smell or have animal hair on them will be rejected from the show.

  • AJ - roller for flattening seams. Likes the one by Clover more than wooden ones.

    • Cathy- can also use a wallpaper roller

  • Dianne - seam ripper, one with stiletto on other side

  • Jessica - lid lifter for handling rotary blades, ultra fine mister, clapper

Quilt A-Long - Patti

  • “Electric” quilt a-long. Will have monthly prompts/hints. 

Cathy - International Quilt Museum Exhibit

  • “Black at work”

Cathy - QuiltCon

  • 5 p.m. Friday happy hour for all 11 Florida MQG chapters. Bar 210 in the Westin hotel lobby.

  • Feb. 9 QuiltCon email introduced the meeting app with a full calendar and a schedule you can customize (like adding the awards ceremony and happy hour).

  • Saturday - would like to take a guild photo with the community outreach quilt

Cathy - BQE

  • Quilt Entry: deadline is midnight March 6. Three modern quilt categories by size. Please try to enter at least one for $15 for judging and/or $10 for exhibit only. Just photo is needed by March 6th. Cathy would like every member to submit at least one quilt. 

  • Basket Walk: Bring fat quarters to the March 18 meeting. If not attending, please mail one. Unfold first to make sure it’s a full FQ.

  • March 18 Meeting: we’ll collect What’s Your Stitch challenge quilts and put price tags on Guildtique sale items.

  • Show is April 15-16. Guildtique table volunteers are needed for Sunday. (You get a place to sit down.) Bring sale items to March 18 meeting or as early as possible Saturday morning.

Row Your Quilt BOM Show & Tell and monthly drawing

  • Jane Adolf won BOM drawing for February

  • Jamie Schneibach won the big January drawing for the completed 2022 BOM

Charity quilts - Susan

  • Deliveries to SOS Children’s Village and the Edward J. Healey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Riviera Beach 

  • Last year had 110 charity quilts

  • Lots of quilt tops need to be quilted. Susan will make kits with batting and backing if you would like to pick up a kit at BQE and finish a quilt.

Quiltfolk Raffle - Cathy

  • Leslie and Jessica won magazine.

  • Linda and Marie won calendar. 

Treasurer's report - AJ

  • End of Jan - $15,960 balance. Just paid our dues. 

  • Expenses of $854.68 to pay for workshop and speaker

  • T-Shirts: Currently $72 in green. Ask AJ for a shirt if you would like one.

Sew Day at AJ’s clubhouse tomorrow

  • Free food truck and steel band

  • Invite in FB group

Workshops

  • March 25th 10-1 is Sarah Ruiz workshops - still 2 spots left.  Sarah Ruiz - Happy Mail: Quilted Fabric Postcards

  • October lecture and workshop the following week with David Owen Hastings - architectural element and make a small quilt out of that - 6 hour workshop. 

Membership 

  • 2023 Membership Renewal completed. We are 127 members strong.
