May 2022 Meeting Recap

SATURDAY, May 21st, 2022 1pm-3:30pm

MEETING MINUTES

Cathy opened mtg at 1pm. Dual meeting at Boca Raton Community Center & online.

Cathy introduced speaker Sylvia Schaefer of Flying Parrot Quilts, who spoke and answered questions till 2:07pm. Her topic was how her love of science influenced her quilt making from traditional to modern.

Attendance : 62 members - 9 in house; 53 on zoom. No lecture guests were permitted as per speaker.

QAL : Patti, explained month 3’s assignment of planning, choosing, cutting fabrics for month 4 and beyond. Directions are on website.

Quiltique : Alison, showed us new project of wine gift bag made modern. 

BQE : Raffle, Cathy, fund raiser $5 per ticket, chance to win free long arm  quilt quilted up to queen size. We need a BQE guild rep to attend zoom mtgs and report back to us. BQE presentation for 20 min.

SFMQG Challenge : AJ will coordinate. It will be previewed in August,  worked on in September and finished for October meeting. 

QuiltCon has several challenges.

  • Outreach challenge on color  progressions - call for designs to show guild in June. Prints can be  incorporated.

  • Wyndham fabric challenge by Ruby & Bee.

  • American Patchwork & Quilting Modern Log Cabin Quilt.

  • Modern X Quilt Challenge

BQE has 2 challenges.

  • It’s Not Easy Being Green

  • Quilt Your World

DIY BOM - Cathy : There were 10 participants and SusanW was chosen for gift certificate.

Membership - Charlotte : new member DottyL. Total 131 members.

Treasurers Report - AJ : Account balance is $12,154.22.

Charity - SusanC & Chris : All info is on website. Great News! Cathy was able to reserve the meeting room at the Boca Raton Community Center starting at 9am on June 18th, 2022. We will plan to do our charity sew day starting at 9am until the beginning of the SFMQG monthly meeting. Susan will bring some sun glass kits to sew and quilt blocks that need to be put together for our BQE quiltque sale and quilt donation. Bring your charity quilts for donation, this year we are donating to SOS Children's Villages and The Edward J. Healey Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. I hope many of you are able to come sew, socialize and enjoy the meeting! Questions: email Susan
