August Events: Domestic Machine Quilting with Linda Hungerford

This August, SFMQG will welcome Linda Hungerford to South Florida for two events focussing on machine quilting using domestic sewing machines.

Linda Hungerford is the founder of Central Florida MQG. She has been a sewist since childhood, and a quilter since 1976. In 1998 she began domestic machine quilting, and in 2005 began teaching. Her first classes were taught to beginners at her church in Iowa, and expanded to churches throughout the Des Moines area. As a result of her classes, she wrote First Time Quiltmaking (Landauer Publishing).

Since moving to The Villages, Florida, in 2012, Linda has continued teaching beginner quiltmaking and has now taught the five-week series of lessons a total of 34 times! Through the Lifelong Learning College, and Quilting Guild of The Villages, she also teaches technique and free motion quilting classes.

On Saturday August 20th, Linda will be giving us a lecture and trunk show on quilting on domestic machines. Linda will share her journey toward becoming an award-winning domestic machine quilter. With first-hand experience facing the challenges of learning free motion quilting without the aid of a stitch regulator, she will share tips learned along the way that will help domestic machine quilters achieve success. The presentation concludes with a trunk show of domestic machine quilted quilts.  The lecture is free for SMFMQ members, and guests are welcome to join us for $5 - tickets can be booked on the Event page.

The following day, Sunday August 21st, Linda will be leading an all day workshop covering everything you need to know about quilting on a domestic machine! She will cover techiniques using a walking foot, and also free motion quilting with a quilting or darning foot. The workshop is limited to 20 students, and is priced at $80 for SFMQG members, $100 for guests. See the Event page for full details, supply list, and to book your spot.

Registration will be open to SFMQG members only until June 20th, at which point guest registration will be open.

Find Linda and more of her exquisite work on her on her blog and Instagram.

MQG members can register now for Linda’s “No Tails Binding: Mitered Corners by Machine” creative webinar on Thursday, September 29.
