2022 Block of the Month (BOM) Announcement
ANYTHING GOES MODERN DIY BOM
For 2022, we’re making a change that’s more compatible with virtual quilting. There are no color, size or design rules. You pick a quilt you’d like to make with at least 12 blocks or areas. If your pattern has fewer blocks, consider making some duplicates to get to 12.
Email a photo to President and Charlotte of your latest block by noon Wednesday before the monthly meeting to qualify for a monthly gift card. (No worries if you miss a month.) Finish the top and send a photo before the January 2023 meeting to qualify for the grand prize.
Got a favorite pattern you’ve been dying to try? Got an improv or sew-along theme you’ve been daydreaming about? Did you like one of the previous BOMs, which can be found on the SFMQG website? Have you got a hankering for one of the MQG patterns? Want to try Corinne Sovey’s skillbuilder pattern Playground BOM Maybe another circle or curves quilt? This is the perfect opportunity.
We’re announcing this early so you can pick the color way and pull the fabric in time to deliver your first block ahead of the Jan. 15 meeting. And here’s a head up. The February and April blocks will be due early -- by Feb. 2 and March 30 -- to accommodate meeting date changes.
Need more suggestions? MQG published an interesting 12-block quilt called Funky Medina by Christine Ricks in different color ways October 2020 and July 2016. I picked out fabric using the 2016 pattern. I also like the Barbed block by Molly Wardlow from April-May-June 2021 with 2-color, 16-inch blocks made from two fat quarters.
Hints: You can work ahead as long as you keep up with the monthly photo delivery schedule. You can slow down and still qualify for the grand prize with a finished top a year down the road. Pick a storage container to keep everything together for a year.
One block a month. How tough is that? Not at all. And you’ll finish with a complete quilt top!
