COVID-19 Update : The CDC reports the Palm Beach County COVID community level is low. For counties with a low community level, the advise is: "People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask."

AGENDA HIGHLIGHTS :

It's National Quilting Day!

The South Florida Modern Quilt Guild will meet in a hybrid form by Zoom for those at home or at our new meeting place, the Boca Raton Community Center at 150 Crawford Blvd. off Palmetto Park Road between Interstate 95 and Dixie Highway. Doors to the Silver Palm West room will open at 12:30 p.m., and the lecture begins at 1 p.m.

  • March Lecture - Steph Skardal - On Creativity: Pushing Your Creative Boundaries Steph Skardal of Steph Skardal Quilts @stephskardal made a baby jacket as her first sewing project in 2013. She made her first quilt the following year and decided, "Never again." That didn't last. Steph focused on quilt designs in 2016 and won the Quiltcon Best in Show award in 2018. She taught Procreate classes at the last two Quiltcons. Her focus is "On Creativity: Pushing Your Creative Boundaries."

In honor of National Quilting Day, browse the giveaway table. Anyone who decluttered during COVID and wants to offer some fabric, thread, notions, patterns or anything else from the world of sewing can donate items. (Donors must take home anything that doesn't disappear.)

April Updates

We're changing up the meeting and sew day dates to avoid a Passover-Easter weekend conflict. And we have a special meeting date and time of 2 p.m. April 2 for the general meeting and 3 p.m. for the lecture to accommodate Australian quilter Brenda Gael Smith. She'll be leading a workshop for us from 3-6 p.m. April 9. The Sew Day will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 16.

Sew Days

The next Sew Day will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 16. Back on a regular full-day schedule in May at our new location, the Silver Palm West room at the Boca Raton Community Center. Susan and Chris would like the July 2 and Nov. 5 Sew Days to focus on charity projects. You'll get reminders.

Sip & Sew

Second and fourth Thursdays 8-10 p.m. via Zoom. Dial in if you have any quilting questions or want to show projects you're working on.

RandyM is looking for a roomie for the Sebring See-Bring-Sew retreat at the Seven Sebring Raceway Hotel in Sebring May 18-21.

The West Broward Quilt Guild is looking for a modern quilter interested in doing a 20-minute trunk show this summer. See AJ for details.

Members have their works in an exhibition titled Five Contemporary Quilt Artists running through April 3rd 2022 at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden Butterfly Gallery.

Member works will be on display April 1-June 23 in a Modern Quilt Exhibition at the Bailey Contemporary Arts Center in Pompano Beach.

Drawings

BOM: Join the Block of the Month quilt project and have the quilt you've been longing for in January. Email President and Charlotte by noon Wednesday, April 13 to be entered in the monthly gift-card drawing.

Show and Tell

  • Showing off your modern quilty creations via Zoom is not easy. If you can’t show them in person, either email Charlotte pictures or post to Facebook members only group and they will be put in a gallery to be shown during the zoom meeting where you can talk about them.
