Who: Interested SFMQG members

What: Rock Painting Scissors, a quilt inspired rock-painting workshop

When: Earth Day, Sunday April 22, 2018, from 1 pm to 4 pm

Where: AJ Grossman’s studio in Oakland Park, 4420 NE 20th Ave, Suite F

Cost: FREE for SFMQG Members

Why: Fun! Painting rocks with quilt block designs is one way of sharing our quilt love. Adding #SFMQG or the guild website on the back of the rock (if the block design is the front, but we’re modern quilters so no rules) will also share awareness of the guild.

How: Paints and rocks provided by AJ Grossman and Kristin Beck. (There will be some Sharpie markers, too.) Show up with comfy clothes to paint in and a snack to share. AJ will also have coffee and tea ready at her studio.

A very short history of rock painting:

It’s global. There are rock groups all over Facebook. There is one for Broward and then usually one for all the cities in Broward, as an example. One source sites The Kindness Project as the beginning and there are lots of articles of why to paint them or how it’s a community builder.

Why are we doing this?

It’s fun to paint them. More fun to hide them, but the most fun is finding them. Sharing positive and happy thoughts in colorful ways can only bring smiles. What’s more colorful than a quilt?
