MEETING MINUTES

Brenda started the meeting at 1:02PM

Jacquie Gering presented her lecture "Finding My Voice" prior to the general meeting - there were 75 attendees.

Treasurer - AJ reported that we have $11,632 in our account.

Membership - Charlotte reported that membership renewals are now due - annual dues are $50. The deadline to pay is February 1, so all paperwork can be done and turned into the MQG. If you are registered for QuiltCon you should renew by the deadline if you still want to attend. As of 01/16/2021, we have 99 renewals, about 25 shy of our peak membership in 2020. We have 3 new members this month - Elizabeth B, Cindy W and Melanie F. There were 79 renewals by 12/31 - Susan C won the raffle drawing (a $25 gift certificate) for early renewals. Currently 102 members have renewed.

BQE - AJ told everyone to save the date - 03/17/2021 will be the Airing of the Quilts at the New River Inn in Ft. Lauderdale. Each guild may submit 15 quilts to be hung on the building for this one day event. There will be destash tables available for a cost of $20 - you keep your proceeds. There will also be a Guild destash table where you can donate items to sell to raise money. There will be a mini quilt show in conjunction with AOTQ to also help raise money. This will be an open theme with a maximum size of 24"x24". More details can be found on the Broward Quilt Expo website.

BOM - Sylvie won the T blocks, and Marie F won the Red Hot Cocoa blocks in this month's BOM drawings. The January BOM details are on the website. Send completed blocks to Cathy Wilson - 1 block = 1 stamp - if you're sending multiple blocks, please make sure to add additional postage.

Charity - Susan C reported that 80 quilts and 15 placemats were given to Menorah House, a nursing home and rehab facility in West Boca Raton. The staff and administration were overjoyed! They came out and held some of the quilts for a quick pix and also told Susan and Chris that some of the quilts the Guild donated 2 years ago are still there and being used and loved by the recipients.

Susan asked for suggestions for a charity for 2021 - children's charities, shelters, if someone works at or has parents in a nursing home, etc. - we can make quilts, placemats, masks, anything that would be useful. Quilts do not require a specific pattern, but lap size is best. Please contact Susan with any suggestions.

Election of Officers - Brenda has exhausted all possibilities in finding a President for 2021 and no one has come forward to volunteer. Therefore, because of the extenuating circumstances of the past year, Brenda is willing to stay on as President for another year. Because our by-laws limit the President's term to 1 year, AJ made a motion to allow Brenda to stay on for another year (this will not change our by-laws). The motion was seconded by Sandy N. The motion was carried and approved.

The slate of officers for 2021 was introduced:
Brenda Zimmerman - President
Sherry Pasquariello - VP Events
Cathy Wilson - VP Education
AJ Grossman - Treasurer
Sandy Naval - Secretary

AJ made a motion for the new 2021 Board to be approved. Sandy N. seconded the motion. The motion was carried and the new 2021 Board was approved.

Brenda also acknowledged everything that Charlotte does for the Guild, announced that we have a new Social Media Person, Melissa Hattaway, and that Cathy will continue to do BOM, as well as her new role as VP Education.

Meeting/Lectures/Workshops - Our February meeting has been moved to Saturday , February 27, 2021, because of a conflict with the original date and QuiltCon. Cassandra Beaver will be presenting a lecture at 1:00PM prior to the general meeting. Lecture is free to members and open to guests for $10.

Many great lectures on the horizon - Christine Hager-Braun will be our guest lecturer at the March meeting and Marge Tucker at the April Meeting - both are free to members and open to guests for $10.

Cassandra Beaver will also be teaching a workshop (Piecing Full Circles) for us on Saturday, April 23 and Maria Shell has been booked for a workshop (TBD) 11/6-7, 2021 - details will be posted on the website when available.

Sherry asked anyone that has not received their paper packets for the David Owen Hastings workshop on 01/23 to please let her know right away. She also explained the need to register with the link she emailed to the participants in order for David to send them a Zoom link they will need for the workshop. Contact Sherry with questions.

Sip & Sew/Small Groups -Sandy explained that we will be offering a new Zoom small group that will meet on the 4th Thursday of the month from 8-10PM to share info, tips and progress on the free Playground Skillbuilder QAL by Corrine Sovey. This a free BOM available on Corinne's website/blog - she will post a new skill builder assignment at the middle of the each month beginning 01/15-December. We will not be giving instruction on how to make the block, but everyone is free to ask questions and give input to the group. An email with full details will be sent to all members along with a Zoom link for the meetings.

Sherry mentioned that small Zoom groups with like-minded activities were something requested on the recent member survey. If anyone has suggestions for a small group they'd like to see, please contact Sherry or Sandy.

Sip and Sews will continue to be the 2nd Thursday of the month from 8-10PM.
