SFMQG Nov. 18, 2023, Meeting Summary

Lecture by Miami-based Textile artist Regina Jestrow

  • Recollection of her natural dyeing process and exhibits throughout the US.

  • Uses So Fine thread due to low-lint

  • Uses synthetic batting

50/50 Raffle - ½ of $77 - MarieF is the winner, congratulations!

Sewing Machine Tote Raffle

  • LindaGu is the winner, congratulations!

Quilt for CathyW, President’s Quilt

  • Members contributed blocks, AJ created the quilt.

  • Quilting completed by DeniseG.

Elections

  • Nominees: All existing positions aside from President were formally reelected for another year.

  • President -

    • organize and set up zoom meetings for the Board meetings, which are the first Tuesday of the month for an hour

    • Set up an agenda for our meetings, many of which are replicated from other meetings and standing items

    • essentially manage the meetings

  • VP Workshops - AlisonR (reelection)

  • VP Lectures - AliceH (reelection)

  • Treasurer - AJ (reelection)

  • Secretary - KellyK (reelection)

Mod-Tech Challenge - NancyP

  • BettyW won this month’s raffle.

  • In February, every participant who finishes their quilt top will post a photo in the FB group.

  • These tops will be judged, given a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

  • There will be a viewer’s choice vote in March.

  • The tops will be judged by a multi-winner at QuiltCon.

Membership Report - Charlotte

  • 2024 dues will stay at $60. Will be ramping up lecture budget next year accordingly.

  • Welcome new members EveH & StaceyC.

  • Have a total of 143 members this year. We hope you are considering renewing.

  • There will be a raffle prize for those who renew by a certain date.

  • Email to renew will be sent soon.

  • We will need to pay 1700-1900 to MQG next year based on our expected membership

Charity Quilt - SusanC

  • NancyK brought 60 quilt tops in today!

  • Many other blocks and tops were submitted, thank you!

  • 12 new completed quilts brought in today!

  • These will be donated to SOS Children’s Village and a nursing home in West Palm Beach.

  • Believes that with the 5-inch blocks we will have about 70 quilts to donate.

Treasurer’s Report - AJ

  • $15,874 balance

  • Deposits of $259

  • Spent $651

2024 BOM - MarieF

  • Will be a monthly block pattern - submit the block, and if you win the raffle you receive all the blocks for that month.

  • Can either keep or donate to charity quilt program.

Quilt-A-Long for 2024

  • Patti is hitting pause on this for next year and plans to return in 2025.

  • If you’d like to coordinate that, it’s open!
