2021-04 Month #2 SFMQG Florida Flyover QUILT-ALONG (QAL) with Patti

April 2021 Prompt

Hello to all my wonderful quilt-a-long pals! It looks like the Florida Flyover is all the rage with the SFMQG folks. I’ve been thrilled to see so many of you participating. Keep on posting your awesome progress on our Facebook group to inspire all of us.

Last month, you were asked to make a 18 inch block featuring water. This month, we will be swimming along toward finishing our “water” component.

The goal for this month is as follows:

1. OPTION #1 - You will create an 18.5 inch square block that will feature your water components – HOWEVER, you will be dividing it in half diagonally, so you will need to make your block a little differently than last month.

2. You will work diagonally and put your darkest colors toward the outside, moving toward the center with progressively lighter color, then move back toward the outside with your darker colors. Once you are done, you will cut your block in half diagonally through the lighter section. This will create two 18.5 inch triangles. You will sew those triangles onto your square to make a very large triangle

This is half of my block (please ignore the sand/tan colored patchwork as it’s part of next months assignment). Note that the lighter color is toward the center and the darker color is toward the edge.

Here’s how making an 18.5 block might look.

OPTION #2 – You can create two triangles that measure 18.5 inches on each side. Please see the attached example of how the two triangles are connected to the original water block
