MEETING MINUTES
Brenda started the meeting at 1:00PM
Brenda introduced speaker, Christine Hager-Braun whose lecture was “Create with Confidence”. She spoke and answered questions until 2:05 There were 66 attendees.
Treasurer - AJ $12,578 in treasury. We raised $53 from our table at Airing of the Quilts, and $65.60 from Amazon smiles. She reminded members they can sign up with Amazon smile and the guild gets a small portion of sale. Easy way to fund raise.
Membership - Charlotte we have 120 members, including 1 new member SusanP. She credits our fabulous programs and workshops on Zoom as the attraction.
Cathy informed us of Brenda being gifted a group quilt for her year as President and pictures of it are in gallery. Quilt was pieced by Dre, who also donated the black grunge backing, quilted by Li, DianeP made the label, and Cathy made the binding. Kristen chose the colors.
BOM - Cathy received 26 blocks for March with more mailed but not received, for the quilt to be auctioned at BQE later this year. AbbieB won the raffle gift certificate. April BOM is a 5 patch style in monochromatic colors, with all info on our website.
Charity - Susan and Chris Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse is the women’s shelter chosen. Goal is 25 twin sized quilts this year. We are asking for 5 blocks per member. It’s a tossed 9 patch block aka Eleanor Burns. White center block with any colors for balance. Directions on website.
AJ, BQE update: Airing of the quilts was well received. As of now, BQE is going forward with October date assuming we will be allowed to congregate in such large numbers, to be decided end of May. Volunteers are needed. All quilts do not need to be judged. And a new category, children’s quilts, 2 age groups, was added this year. All categories and details are on BQE website.
Linda H, Challenge: (with Charlotte’s and Sherry’s help) SFMQG 2020 CHALLENGE - Curve Around Challenge. Any size, any color, with only requirement being quilt must have curves. Rules and suggestions are on our website. The finished quilt is due at the November mtg, then 10 days of voting, with winners announced at December mtg. Ribbons and pries will be rewarded.
Patti, QAL: This years QAL is 2021 SFMQG Florida Flyover QUILT-ALONG (QAL) with Patti and will be done over the next 6 months. The goal will be a quilt of the Florida coastline. This months prompt is for 18 1/2” block of water colors, made on a diagonal or similar angle, with scrappy look starting from darks to lights using any construct you like. More details on website.
Charlotte, Quiltcon Together: still accepting blocks, any size or pattern, not just hearts, that reflect inspiration from quiltcon in the SFMQG guild logo colors. She also announced that Kane won the annual quilt day raffle.
