Upcoming Workshops

September 9th 2023 IN-PERSON Workshop – Carol Ann Ferrari Rogers – Sewing a Duffle Bag

⦁ Cost is $30, supply list is on website now.

⦁ September 9th, in-person at Boca Community Center.

⦁ Need more registrants - currently the small amount would make this not a viable workshop.

⦁ David Owen Hastings - end of October - Registration will open at the beginning of August

⦁ End of January 2024 - 2 day workshop with Sarah Goer - Improv Toolbox

⦁ March 23-24, 2024: Irene Roderick - Dancing with the Wall.

Motion to approve June 2023 meeting minutes - approved.

CathyW is moving out of FL

⦁ Hopes to serve out her term through the end of the year. We will need a new President.

⦁ Nominations in October, Elections in November.

⦁ Role entails:

⦁ Lead meetings

⦁ Create meeting agendas

⦁ Host monthly Board Meeting

⦁ Discuss membership, contracts, Treasurer’s Report, events.

⦁ Coordinate with MQG and BRCC

⦁ Has a guild credit card - charged batting purchase at BQE.

Lecture - Patricia Belyea - Okan Arts - The Unknowing of Creativity

⦁ Lives in rural Washington and grows indigo. Uses vintage Japanese textiles.

⦁ Small family company imports yukata - hand-dyed fabrics for summer kimono.

⦁ #8 Pearl Cotton is favorite Sashiko thread.

⦁ King silk batting for luxurious commission quilts.

⦁ Uses clover water soluble marker to delineate path for hand-sewing.

⦁ Dunks quilt into a bathtub of water to get rid of the blue lines. Then lays it on the floor in a room with wall to wall carpeting and blocks the quilt. Recommends Blocking Basics. The blocking process makes the 3 layers merge together.

NancyP - 2023 Mod Tech Mystery Challenge

⦁ Lots of wonderful elements have been created by participants.

QuiltCon Community Outreach Quilt

⦁ Cathy has distributed block kits, has 2 more available for pickup today. Will email instructions.

⦁ Blocks will be made at Sew Day tomorrow as well, at AJ’s Sew Day at her community clubhouse in Parkland.

Susan - Charity Update

⦁ This year working with same 2 charities as last year, a nursing home and SOS Children’s Village.

⦁ Pattern is online for a possible quilt you can create, but anything you create is very appreciated.

⦁ Throw sized or larger please.

⦁ Having a Thanksgiving dinner with everyone where we will collect the quilts to distribute early 2024.

⦁ Elizabeth DeCroos will be speaking about a Korean quilting method - Pojagie.

⦁ 9/23 meeting - a week later than usual. Perception of Randomness lecture by Diana Li Fitzgerald.

⦁ October 21 - David Owen Hastings - Quilt Labels to Love

⦁ November 18 - Regina Jestrow, Fiber Arts. Had display at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami.

BQE has changed their name to South Florida Quilt Expo

⦁ Looking for committee chair-people for 2025 expo.

⦁ Would take about 2-3 hours monthly.

⦁ Looking into a quilt retreat out of Fort Lauderdale on a cruise ship to quilt and eat and be merry. A day at sea. Machines will be set up. Would likely make one stop in Nassau.
