Our block of the month for May, Scattered Squares, is featured on the St. Louis Folk Victorian blog by Kristy Daum.
This block is an easy to piece pattern and is great for scraps. Shelly has provided us with a sample block and strips of the May fabric colorway:
The squares are text fabric with a white or off-white background. The strips are lime green and red-purple. Please use fabric from your stash or purchase at Stitchcraft as BOM fabric bundles will not be offered at the monthly meeting.
Here are the color matches for you (with a general color indicator):
Kona: K001-473 Geranium and K001-414 Pea Pod. The Moda purple fabric is darker but should work –9900205 Eggplant and 990075 Lime Green. Also, please a variety of newspaper print fabric as your neutral color in making this block.
Other details:
- Blocks finish 9 inches
- Cut strips from purple, green, and newspaper print fabric (neutral)
- Use ¼ inch seam allowance
- Use 50 weight cotton thread in a coordinating or neutral color
- Press after sewing each seam.
- Trim loose threads as you go.
This block is so easy to make. Make several and you will increase your chances of winning the May lottery. Remember just have fun!
