MEETING MINUTES
Cathy opened mtg at 1pm, welcoming guests. Our quilt arrived at QuiltCon, Lolo’s special jacket for Quiltcon and Kathy Yates 2 blocks featured by Maria Shell. She also thanked AJ for donating a Dell laptop for use at our meetings.
Cathy introduced speaker, Audrey Esarey @CottonandBourbon - Finding My Voice In Modern Quilting - Lecture / Trunk Show She gave a beautiful slide presentation of her quilting history with lots of process information. She concluded with questions and answers and spoke till 2:30. There were 74 attendees - 68 members and 6 guests. One guest joined after the meeting - welcome CoryA!
Cathy also gave meeting place update: Boca Raton Community Center, agreed but contract not signed yet. If we can hold hybrid meeting, it will be there on 2/5/2022, otherwise all virtual. TBA.
Cathy’s son drew the winning ticket for the beautiful BQE 2nd place winning group quilt. The raffle raised $725 and our own MaureenD won the quilt. Congratulations!
Cathy reminded us that we are a service organization, and as such, Charity quilts and BQE Guildtique 2023 are part of what we all do.
BQE Guildtique 2023 : AlisonR spoke about this new activity. She’s working along with SusanC and they came up with 14 small projects, mostly easy, that can be made with small pieces of fabric from our stashes. 2 or 3 projects will be posted each month to do in whatever order you want, making as many as you want, just make them modern by use of fabric or design elements.
Charity : SusanC and Chris : Summarized 2021 charity by giving 24 twin sized quilts to AVDA at their office this past week. They were thrilled as they were just about to order new bedding for the facility. 50 members participated in the making of the quilts, esp her sister who has a new long arm machine and got lots of practice. Susan continued with info for 2022 charity projects 1) lap sized quilts about 49x60 for county home, and 2) SOS Children’s Village wants throw size, appx. 50x70 with Disney, sports, colorful themes. She chose a 6 1/2” block which is fat quarter friendly. All info is on website.
Cathy asked for volunteers for 3 positions:
VP Education. This year’s lectures are all selected, so the person would start on 2023.
Social Media person to do Facebook and Instagram posts, etc.
Challenge coordinator to develop a theme and promote it through the year.
No one volunteered at meeting. Please email president if you would like to discuss these positions.
Treasurers Report - AJ presented the proposed and final budget for 2021and proposed budget for 2022, which started 2022 with $13,594. She reminded people of Amazon Smile, an easy way to help our bottom line.
Membership - Charlotte - new members RoseP, RandyM, MoniqueF & CoryA. 110 members renewed so far, with 30 to go. NicoleK won the $25 gift certificate for timely renewal. Congratulations. Deadline for renewals is 1/20/2022.
QAL: Patti explained what a QAL is and announced it will start in March, with more info at the February mtg. She’s working on photos and a great story.
BQE. Lolo is new SFMQG guild liaison. AJ said categories posted. Beverly Fine is judge, 2 additional guilds may join in. RobinnE is volunteer coordinator with several positions to be filled by each guild.
DIY BOM : Cathy - 12 blocks of choice, one per month. Send photo and one person will win $10. See pictures in Gallery below. Abby Bill was this months winner. Congratulations! Zoom Evening on 1/27/2021.
