May Meeting Recap

May was action packed with a presentation from the Girls’ Club, a presentation about Collaborative Quilts, the Riley Blake Challenge Reveal (with prizes) and more! So much fun! See below for a slideshow of the highlights. Click on the picture to open it in full screen.

Attendance

37 Members signed in. One new member joined. Welcome Susanne Ellman! Three guests were accompanied a member: Judy, with Joanee, Marylyn with Maureen, and Ellen with Sue. Two additional visitors found us on social media. That is a total of five guests. It's always fun to see new faces! The more the merrier!

Girls' Club

A representative came from Girls' Club and talked to us about the Girls’ Club and accepted our donation from the proceeds of our 2016 QuiltCon raffle quilt. The Girls’ Club is a nonprofit art exhibition space, which also provides educational opportunities for the public as well as hosting special events. The presentation was informative; it is always great to hear about local art venues supporting female artists. More information on Girls' Club can be found at @girlsclubfll on instagram or at http://girlsclubcollection.org/

Special Topic

As you know, Kate was in charge of our most recent raffle quilt so she was the perfect person with whom to explore collaborative quilts. So many kinds – charity quilts, fabric swaps, block swaps, guild projects, school projects and those are only a few.  Now there are even ways to participate in collaborative quilting on line. Kate’s presentation will be posted soon!

Make Do Update

The due date of the Make Do Challenge is approaching quickly.  Patti Auten is organizing a big reveal of all the completed projects at the June meeting, so be sure to get yours done! Like we did with the Negative Space Challenge last year, all of the Make Do quilts will be exhibited at IS Projects in Ft. Lauderdale during FAT Village Art Walk starting July 29th and for a few weeks after. Special thanks to Debbie Schindall and her daughter for making this exhibit happen. It is so exciting to view our work in a gallery. Please register your entry here.

QAL

Rose Parsons won the Red Thread prize for her flying geese border section. Debbie Krajkowski then spoke about the next step, the center. Don’t bring your center in June, as we will have a big reveal in July. Can’t wait to see everyone’s Modern Medallions. You can read more details about it here, on her blog post.

BOM

Rose won the May blocks!  Linda has selected a cute pineapple block for June. You can read the instructions here. Linda also handed out a survey for feedback on future BOMs.

Riley Blake Challenge

Riley Blake Challenge quilts were revealed and as always, everyone did a spectacular job. We had 8 entries and 5 raffle winners. Thanks to Shelly Recicar for organizing and Charlotte Noll for performing the duties of Master of Ceremony.  Get well soon Shelly!  The MQG results can be found here

Sew Days

Just a reminder, June 3rd is a sew day. The theme for it will be community service projects. Hope to see you there!

The theme for the July 8th sew day is a zippy project box. Nicole brought one in and showed it off! Very cute! Registration will happen soon.

Susan DiBartolo purchased her bag lining from http://www.threadinternational.com/, for those that asked!

Alyson showed off Sewtasket basket stuff and Pam Chamberlin won it - nope, not Rose. :-)

Wow, that was busy and fun. Let’s work on our BOM, challenge, and medallion and we’ll see you next month!

Come support your fellow SFMQG members!

We have three members, Charlotte, Debbie K, & Marya, with quilts in an upcoming exhibit at the Elliot Museum. It opens June 9th and ends July 15th. There is an Artists' Reception June 15th.

Come out and support your fellow quilters! The flier is on the right.

Congrats ladies!!
