The September meeting was extra fun, we had 51 in attendance, including 4 new members and 4 guests.

Icebreaker

Who has been and who is going to Broward Quilt Expo?  We are all excited for quilt-y exhibits, shopping and workshops.

Special Topic

Mini Madness!

Mini Madness!

Modern Mini Madness! The meeting room was adorned with lots of mini quilts that were brought in by our members, to showcase this special topic. Charlotte presented a slide show of ideas, reasons to make minis and how minis have become more popular in the modern quilting community. The SFMQG will be participating in the BQE mini quilt show and fundraiser auction coming up in March 2017.  To get us all working on mini's, a Mini Madness workshop by Charlotte is schedule for Dec 10th, with finishing techniques (blocking/binding/hanging/label).

Block of the Month

This month's BOM was an easy and modern two by four block.  The winner of the blocks is Cathy Wilson!  Shelly presented the BOM for October, a cute little paper pieced pattern of a Halloween bat to be made in Halloween colors.

Quilt Along

Quilt Along leader Patti Auten presented instructions for the last traveling block,  when the boxes come back next month they will be returned to their owners to make one final block and for finishing.  

The Finishing Party workshop is scheduled for Saturday November 12.

Patti also talked about the "Make Do" challenge by Sherri Lynn Wood, there will be more information about this to come.

Community Service

The quilt charity project for "Manor Care of Boca" is completed, Susan Capone and Wanda Goldfarb will be adding labels to all of the quilts for distribution next month.  All members are invited to join us when the quilts are taken over to Manor Care.

Quiltcon Charity Challenge

Project chair Kate Yates presented the design idea, color palette and presented some ideas for implementation for the SFMQG 2017 Quiltcon Charity Challenge.  There w ill be a sew day on Saturday October 8th to work on blocks for this quilt.
