SYNOPSIS

  • BQE: Update by Nora and team members. There is a need for volunteers to help with the expo. Can you do it? Plus, Kerrilyn collected eight spunky minis for the BQE Miniature Quilt Auction and three entrants won cool raffle prizes. Congratulations to Nicole, Linda, and Margie! Still time to enter your mini!

  • Education: Nicole delivered the findings of the quilt fears survey. Plus, she challenged us all to name our fear to conquer this year and in December there will be prizes. Did you sign up?

  • BOM: Catherine introduced Strip in Square for January (due in February). Doris was the big winner of December’s BOM (submitted in January) of the fun soda pop can. (Edit: I forgot to take a photo of Doris! Imagine that she’s smiling with her soda pop cans and dreaming of a cute quilt to make with them.)

  • Charity: Community quilts and charity projects by Susan and Chris for 2019. The new look is strips and squares and each lap quilt will benefit children aged 5 to 12 of Children’s Home Society, Broward Chapter. Ready to get strippy with it? Then you need the details of this year’s charity quilt.

  • Snack and Shop Intermission: we shopped the Destash table with Judy Shelton. So. Many. Bargains.

  • Events: Isabella shared the awesome selections from our fellow member Rayna Gillman. Sign up details to follow soon, but mark your calendars for May 4th an 5th. Just pencil it in!

  • Quilt Quiz: We have a bunch of smart quilty women in this group, and all the correct answer givers selected a spool of Aurifil thread of their choice. It was kind of like a box of mixed chocolates where every flavor is a winner!

  • Show & Tell: We ended with show and tell, which included collective #Quiltconrejects, or Salon des Refuses. (Edit: I personally thought this would be a bigger show, but the quilts shared were awesome.) We also saw some could-be-reimagined-modern thrift finds, lovely completed quilts, a creative tree skirt pursuit, awesome large-scale phantasmagoric modern solid quilts, and some works of hand stitching. (Okay, embroidery. It was embroidery, but if it wasn’t in a hoop…)
