Heather Jones Events

SFMQG is delighted to announce a weekend of events with modern quilter Heather Jones.

Heather Jones is an author, designer and self-taught quilter. Her first solo book, Quilt Local: Finding Inspiration in the Everyday was released in October 2015. She is the founder and former president of the Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild; three of her original quilts were chosen as winners of “Project Modern,” a year-long national quilting design competition sponsored by the national Modern Quilt Guild; and she is also a two-time finalist for the Martha Stewart American Made Awards.

Please take a moment to watch this wonderful video and let Heather tell you in her own words about what quilting means to her.

For Heather Jones, inspiration can be anywhere. For her debut book, Quilt Local, she designed a collection of 20 quilts, each inspired by objects and places close to home—country roads, cityscapes, street signs—the landscape of her existence. Then, in a fascinating exercise in color theory and design play, she reworked each one in a second palette to show what a striking difference just a few basic changes can make.

Heather is often inspired by everyday places and things, and is excited by the challenge to translate that inspiration into her work. She has a great love and respect for the traditional art of quilting, is an avid collector of vintage quilts, and loves to bring a modern twist to traditional patterns.

Heather lives outside of Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband and two young children. You can find Heather on her websiteInstagramTwitter, and Pinterest.

Learn large-scale piecing and make this beautiful quilt in the Saturday workshop.

Heather will share her design secrets with us in the Sunday workshop.

Heather will be visiting us in September for three events.

Each of these events is an unmissable opportunity to learn more about modern quilting and modern quilt design.

For full details of each event, please click the links above to read the full event information.

Registration for the lecture and trunk show on Friday is open now both for SFMQG members and guests. Space is limited so be sure to sign up if you would like to attend.

Workshop registration is open now and is available exclusively for SFMQG members until July 12th, when both workshops will be open to guests as well.

I am looking forward to welcoming Heather to sunny South Florida and I'm very excited to learn from her over this special weekend.
