January Meeting Recap

SFMQG launched 2017 off to a great start with the January meeting.

Board Hand Off

Allison's look of surprise!

Instead of our usual icebreaker, gifts were presented to the previous board as a thank you for their hard work and dedication. Allison & Ivy’s quilts were truly a group effort.

Allison’s quilt was made of blocks made by SFMQG members for August 2016 BOM.  The design was created by Charlotte, Debby S and Ivy. Solid fabrics for front and back were donated by Ivy and Patti A and pieced by Charlotte. It was quilted by Debbie K on her long arm with batting donated by Abbie B. The binding was created by Charlotte and hand sewn by Sue W. It was topped off with a customized label made by Diane P.

Ivy and her beautiful quilt.

Ivy’s quilt was made of blocks made by SFMQG members for the November 2016 BOM. The design was created, pieced and big stitch quilted by Charlotte (her current favorite). It was also topped off with a customized label made by Diane P.

Thanks again to the previous board (Allison, Ivy, Charlotte, Patti, Debby, and Abbie) for your dedication in helping SFMQG best the awesome group it is!

BQE

BQE is quickly approaching! BQE representatives Roberta, Carolyn and Holly spent time explaining BQEtique and the various volunteering opportunities available. A few important items to note:

  • A big thanks to all members who brought in donations for the BQE Modern Solid Basket and the SFMQG BQEtique fundraiser.  Charlotte will be accepting any additional donations at the February general meeting.
  • All members at the meeting were given 5 raffle tickets for the Charity Quilt Auction (we are auctioning the SFMQG 2016 QuiltCon Charity Quilt). Please bring your donations or unsold tickets back to the next general meeting. If you weren't able to attend or need more tickets, you can get them from Linda at the February general meeting.
  • Also, a huge thanks for the BQE Modern Mini Madness donations! What a awesome turnout. If you were motivated by seeing all the lovely minis, there's still time. Please reach out to Charlotte - you have until February 5th to get it to her.

Special Topic

Our very own Kate Yates gave an inspiring and informational lecture on purse & bag making. Thanks Kate!

BOM

Marianna won the 57 block drawing for the December BOM. Allison and Ivy introduced the January BOM.

QAL

Debbie K introduced our 2017 QAL. Make sure you get on board as it's going to stretch our design and sewing skills. Look for an upcoming post on what to prepare for February.

Quilt News

Andrea revealed two teachers SFMQG will be bringing in for classes later this year: Latifah Safir and her Pickled Beets class and Melissa Averino and her Making Faces classes. More information to come on these!

QuiltCon Charity Quilt

"SoBe" was revealed! This was truly a group project. Thanks for everyone's contributions. I personally can't wait to see this hanging in Savannah at QuiltCon 2017 in February.
