  • Welcome 8 new members - 116 total! LoriM, MinnetteC, PhyllisP, DianeM, BetsyD, EmilyF, RochelleS, and RhodaL.

  • Four new members have joined since the meeting - Welcome Helen Heckler, Deborah Shoemaker, Regina Jestrow and Jamie Scheibach for a total of 120!

MEETING MINUTES

  • Meeting opened by AJ, in Brenda’s absence, and introduced guest lecturer, Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill of Whole Circle Studio

  • Sheri spoke about Aurifil threads, including a show and tell of how different threads look in actual work.

    • Concluded with a Q & A and prize drawing, won by Marya Amigos

  • AJ, Treasurer, announced we have $8,600 in funds.

  • Cathy, BOM, showed the block for next month called Fieldcrossing Quilt. New rules on how to share/win BOM’s: either mail to Cathy or drop off at AJ’s studio for a drawing. Directions are on BOM webpage.

  • Charlotte, Membership, announced new members - see list above. 120 members - WOW! There will be another special raffle when guild reaches 125 members. Tell your friends all the fun we are having virtually.

  • Patti, QAL, explained the QAL for the new members and then talked about this month’s inspiration. This month’s Beatles prompt is to create a block representing the crossing of Abbey Road. Info on the entire Beatles QAL to date on webpage.

  • Susan and Chris, Charity Quilts, asked members to continue making placemats for meals on wheels and 45x60 lap sized quilts to be collected at a later date. Check out Charity tab on website.

  • Judy, Challenge, Through your Modern Eyes. Choose an artist you admire and interpret it in a modern way. Due in November.

  • AJ, BQE update: Maria Shell is unable to reschedule to teach due to change in show dates Oct 23-24th, 2021.

  • Nicole, Events, all lectures and workshops are online in Events.

    • August 22nd Map Making with Fabrics virtual workshop with Timna Tarr. Pre-recorded workshop with two live Q&A sessions (half hour each on Sat, Aug 22nd ) at 10am & 1pm, and a members-only Show &Tell at 3pm. Fee for workshop. Q&A sessions and Show & Tell are free for registered members.

    • The November 7th morning Malka Dubrawsky Maze workshop filled quickly. An afternoon session was added and some students moved around so there are a few spots available for both.

  • August Virtual Meeting Gallery was shown and members talked about their work.

Thursday evening 8/6/2020 Sip & Sew Zoom. Next one is 9/10/2020 - join us!

The SFMQG has monthly Zoom meetings the 3rd Saturday 1pm-3pm. Membership is pro-rated for the rest of 2020 which also includes membership in the national MQG. Anyone can join online and participate no matter where you are during 2020. See 2020 Virtual Quilting Fun blog post for complete summary of 2020 virtual events.
