  • Two new members have joined since the meeting - Welcome MinnetteC and LoriM(LoLo) for a total of 110!

MEETING MINUTES

  • Brenda, President, opened the meeting, thanked host, AJ, and introduced our guest lecturer, Amy Friend from During Quiet Time.

  • Amy spoke on Improv Paper Piecing for over one hour then conducted a Q&A session. She discussed how she came to quilting, her inspirations, how she develops her designs and showed beautiful slides of her quilts. Amy gave our guild a discount code to use on her Etsy site good till 7/20/2020.

  • AJ, Treasurer, announced we have $8,247 in funds. $650 was paid for 2 lecturers.

  • AJ, BQE. Broward Quilt Expo has been postponed to Oct 23-24th, 2021. More details to follow. There is a raffle, the prize will be to have the winners Halloween quilt quilted.

  • Charlotte, Membership, announced new members. Welcomes were called out. There was a special raffle for guild reaching 100 members. The 4 winners of $25 quilt store gift certificates from our supporting advertisers are: Maureen Druid, Margie Torma Rohrbach , Patti Moore Auten and Elizabeth Bonet Manning.

  • Catherine, BOM, showed the block for next month called Diagonal Nine Patch. It’s charm pack friendly, late autumn colors, 13
    1/2” unfinished. Keep making blocks and when we meet again we’ll have a large raffle for all the BOM’s made during the months not meeting.Directions are on webpage.

  • Nicole, Events, all lectures and workshops for signup are online in Events.

    • Next workshop is Map Making with Fabrics virtual workshop with Timna Tarr. Pre-recorded workshop with two live Q&A sessions (half hour each on Sat, Aug 22nd ) at 10am & 1pm, and a members-only Show &Tell at 3pm. Fee for workshop. Q&A sessions and Show & Tell are free for members.

    • If Malka Dubrawsky Maze workshop fills (limited to 20 - only 2 spots remaining), there will be a wait list for a possible a second class to be added. A complete summary of guild virtual activities during 2020 is on the website.

  • Patti, QAL, explained the QAL for the new members and then talked about this month’s inspiration. The 4th block in Beatles challenge is based on song Good Day Sunshine. Make an 18 1/2” block unfinished of a sun theme, possibly using a circle. Six blocks in all. Details on webpage.

  • Susan and Chris, Charity Quilts, asked members to continue making placemats for meals on wheels and lap quilts to be
    collected at a later date. Check out Charity tab on website.

  • Judy, Challenge, Through your Modern Eyes. Choose an artist you admire and interpret it in a modern way. Due in November.

  • July Virtual Meeting Gallery was shown and members talked about their work.

The SFMQG has monthly Zoom meetings the 3rd Saturday 1pm-3pm. Membership is pro-rated for the rest of 2020 which also includes membership in the national MQG.
