August 2021 Meeting Recap

MEETING MINUTES

Brenda opened the meeting at 1:00PM

Cathy introduced speaker, Cindy Grisdela - Journey of an Art Quilter Cindy spoke and answered questions until 2:10pm. There were 80 attendees - 77 members and 3 guests. One guest joined afterwards! This is a record attendance!

Treasurer - AJ Treasurers report: End July balance $11,074, $1,143 deposits, $665 withdrawals.

BQE - AJ BQE website. Oct. 23-24, 2021, Charles Dodge Center, Pembroke Pines

  • Quilt online registration ends 9/6 - dropoff 9/9. Quilts should be in a pillow case with name of quilter, name of quilt, etc.

  • Mini quilt auction quilts due 9/9 at dropoff. Proceeds come back to guild. Auction 9/24 4pm.

  • Volunteers are needed, esp SFMQG Guildtique coordinator.

  • Classes listed for registration.

  • Quiltique for sale items needed. Proceeds from all items donated by guild members go to guild.

  • Entry $10/day.

  • Show Volunteering can be done online.

  • Brenda is point person to collect quilts at show’s end.

  • BQE Raffle quilt: Quilt is complete 82”x100” - see gallery for quick pic.

Membership - Charlotte - new members, PaulaK, JaneL, CarlaW - 135 members total at that time.

QuiltCon 2022 Community Outreach quilt: AlisonR will coordinate. Due January. Blocks were made at August Sew Day. Maureen finished the layout. See gallery for pic of top. Requesting volunteer longarm quilter.

Charity - Susan and Chris Blocks/quilt tops can be dropped off at StitchCraft or wait till first in person meeting. Directions on website.

Patti, QAL: Month #6 - SFMQG Florida Flyover QUILT-ALONG (QAL) with Patti. FINISHING YOUR FLORIDA FLYOVER QAL! Sewing it all together. Sew sand to water, and land to sand, size up and you’re done with the top. Post progress and blocks using hashtag #sfmqg2021qal. sewing it all together. Show and tell in September. email Patti picture plus your name and address for participation gift and 3 prizes offered by Red Thread Studio. 8 members participating so far. Details and photos on website.

Linda H, Challenge: SFMQG 2020 CHALLENGE - Curve Around Challenge. Share progress photos using #sfmqgcurvearound So far, 18 Instagram posts by 3 people. Let’s get curvy ladies.

Brenda/AJ: Bi-laws : Suggested bi-laws be changed to reflect the changes in our membership, to allow members who live outside of Florida. Dr. Judy made proposal, Patti Austen seconded, unanimous voice vote in favor, so bi-laws will be changed.

Reminder: next month’s meeting, 9/18/2021, will start at 7pm with Maria Shell Lecture. Meeting to follow. Zoom opens at 6:30.
