MEETING MINUTES
Cathy opened meeting at 1pm. Dual meeting at Boca Raton Community Center & online.
Attendance : 57 members - 11 in house + 46 on zoom. Some of the in house members attended Sew Day starting at 9am.
Lecture: “How to make our passion for quilting more sustainable

Focuses on sustainable supplies and quilting methods. Emphasis on various sustainable textile certifications, upcycling/thrifting materials.
“Choose your community, choose your materials, choose your projects.”
“Slow stitching” - movement around hand work. Not about perfection or cranking out projects, but taking time amongst community to more slowly and intentionally create. Mending is an example.
“Fast fashion” - Large brands, cheaply manufactured clothing of trends that come and go quickly. Often discarded and disregarded.
Check out Resource Depot in West Palm for some donated fabric.

QuiltCon - 5 PM Friday there will be a happy hour for all FL guilds, likely at the Westin/near the Westin.
Amazon Smile is ending 2/20/2023. Anyone who is on that program, if you have any amazon purchases in mind, please do them soon.
Regular meetings: virtual and hybrid meeting mix due to the community center charges for this year.
Feb is virtual only.
March is hybrid
April meeting is zoom only. Date switched to 4/29.
May is hybrid
June is zoom only
July is hybrid
August is zoom only
After that we go into contracted talks again with the community center, at which point we will determine if we will continue to meet here.
What’s your Stitch challenge from last year - would like to collect those quilts for the 3/18 meeting. Feel free to mail them in - FB post is up with Cathy Wilson’s address. Those are not entered into BQE - just a separate exhibit-only portion of the show.
Volunteer coordinator will be attending March meeting. Website is open for volunteers. You say what you are interested in doing as a volunteer and then you will be contacted.
SFMQ needs its own volunteers for the guild table.
Needs a volunteer for our guild table setup. 4/14 is setup. Table is 4/15-16.
Each guild makes a basket for basket walk. Focusing on solids.
Last meeting date to drop off items to sell at the table is 3/18.
Deadline for entries into the show is 3/6.

Quilt your world - some sort of landscape
It’s not easy being green - (avoid Kermit)
Meetups
Coffee-shops, Plunge resort - looking into places to bring some handwork outside of our scheduled meetings.
Morikami is not an option.
BOM review. Jamie won the drawing.
2023 BOM - review of fabric pulls. “Row Your Quilt.” First row is due mid-Feb. Send a photo to Charlotte to enter this segment of the meeting. Looking at 10 rows. Choose your design, make it, and we wrap up in December.
Charity Quilts - 110 were made this year. Susan is bringing 35 to a nursing home in Riviera Beach. After today’s meeting, members are going to SOS Children’s Village - bringing 75 quilts there with dinner for 12 residents.
Memory Lane Quilting - Backing Shack - offering discounts on backing fabric.

Treasurer’s Report:
Ended Dec 2022 with $12,252
Had deposits of $1,614
Had expenses of $692
Current balance is $16,258. This will decline, as we have to pay our MQG dues.
Tomorrow is Sew Day at the Falls of Parkland Clubhouse.

Have 117 members who paid for 2023 renewal so far. Eligible to enter a drawing. Please reach out to Charlotte regarding your renewal.
