Kaffe Fassett in Florida - October 23rd and 24th
I just wanted to alert you all about a great event that is occurring next weekend. Kaffe Fassett, who designs unbelievably beautiful fabrics, yarns and quilts, is holding two workshops in Florida!
The workshops will be held on Sunday, October 23rd and Monday, October 24th at Sunshine Sewing and Quilting. You can register (a few seats left) or put your name on the waitlists:

Let's Get Talking: Introduce Yourself!
Welcome to the new South Florida Mod website! For all of the members of the old website, please note that we will be phasing out that website soon. Please re-send us your contact info so we can updated an updated member roster (click on the "Join the Guild" page for instructions).
One of the great parts of this blog is that it gives quilters the opportunity to reach out to other quilters in the guild! To that end, we would like to get everyone talking and introducing themselves. Here are a few questions to get you started:
1. How long have you been quilting?
2. What are your favorite styles or quilting techniques? Wonky log cabins, raw-edge applique, traditional piecing, art quilts, etc. Photos are encouraged!
3. Why are you interested in the South Florida Mod?
4. What would you like to see the South Florida Mod do? Swaps, bees, charity quilts, show and tell, etc?
Feel free to respond in the comments section of this post, or email us to become a blog contributor and create a whole new post! Photos or blog links are always encouraged. :)

Photos of Modern Quilting
So you think you may want to join South Florida Mod but still don't know what modern quilting really looks like? Here are some photos of my recent works, as samples:
As you can see, "Modern" quilting has a broad range of styles. It encompasses updates to traditional patterns, using bold, bright colors, making "wonky" or freeform blocks, or anything simply made in "modern" times. It's all modern to us!
The internet has been an incredible source of inspiration for modern quilters, who use blogs and Flickr photo galleries to display their work! For more great examples of modern quilting, check out the Flickr gallery called Fresh Modern Quilts.

Welcome!
Welcome to the South Florida Modern Quilt Guild! The Guild (also known as "South Florida Mod") is a laid-back community of quilters who want to "quilt outside the box." We're energetic, fun and looking for quilters who share in our enthusiasm.
You can read more about South Florida Mod on the About SFMQG page. You can also read more about the modern quilting movement in the What is Modern Quilting page. That definition of Modern Quilting is rather narrowly focused on freeform, wonky and abstract quilting, and we are trying to be all-inclusive. Traditional quilters who may not fit in the "modern" category but want to expand their skills or just learn more are certainly welcome to attend!
We encourage you to join South Florida Mod by clicking on the Join The Guild page and following those steps. It is fast, free and easy. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us any time at southfloridamod@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming meetings in November and December 2011!
